So, perhaps you are trying my recipe for Buttermilk Pancakes or French Toast or Brett’s Wonderful Waffles and you realize that you have no maple syrup or even pancake syrup.  Fear not, you can always make Grammy’s Pancake Syrup.

Shown here on French Toast, Grammy’s Pancake Syrup is a fast, economical and delicious replacement for the pancake syrups you can purchase at the grocery stores.

Grammy’s Pancake Syrup is an easy to make a delicious replacement for the pancake syrups you find in the grocery aisles.

Grammy’s Pancake Syrup

Serves about 2 cups
Inspiration Grammy's Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 2 Cups white sugar
  • 1/2 Tsp maple extract (found near vanilla extract in the grocery stores)

Optional

  • 1 Tbsp butter

Directions

Measure the sugar and put in a medium sized saucepan. Pour boiling water over the sugar.

Heat on high, stirring until the sugar dissolves and the liquid is clear.

Remove from the stove and add the maple flavouring. For deep buttered syrup, add the butter and stir it in.
Deep buttered pancake syrup will keep in a covered container in the fridge for 2 weeks. Without the addition of the butter, it will keep for 4 weeks in the fridge.
